Systems Advocacy
The staff at Independent Living Resources actively advocates to continually improve the lives of those with disabilities.
ILR’s goal is to eliminate physical and mental barriers as well as end discriminatory practices within the institution and the community at large. This is an ongoing process, but society has already come a long way. Thanks to education, legal reinforcement, and just awareness in general of the disabled community, we are getting there! However, we have further to go and we won’t be stopping now!
ILR often addresses issues such as civil rights, public transportation, fair housing and policy change. Sometimes these issues need to be brought out in the open so that the public is made aware of them. Other times these issues need to be enforced. Sometimes they might even need to be brought into existence, then cultured and grown into a supportive law or policy.
It is our honor and privilege to champion the rights of individuals with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities by promoting inclusion, providing services, and advancing systems change. Together we can make it happen!
